Our progression in skills document details how children will build on their previous learning each year. The long term plan shows the time periods in history that the children will learn about. We want our children to have a good understanding of the chronology of the time periods they study so all of our classrooms have a History timeline displayed. We then provide a visual representation of each time period studied so that each year the children can see how their previous learning relates to their current learning.
We want children to understand how historical events have impacted on the children's current experience and also how we can learn from the past. This is demonstrated through our curriculum drivers identified in the curriculum map.
We also provide children with a variety of school trips that enrich their understanding of local and world history.
