Spelling

We aim for all of our pupils to be competent spellers who have a variety of 'tools' to use when they cannot spell a word.  We follow the spelling guidance set out in the National Curriculum.

 

Across the school phonics is taught using the Sounds Write programme of study.

 

Spelling is also taught through investigating spelling rules; patterns based around prefixes and suffixes; and polysyllabic words (Sounds Write).

 

Children are set weekly spelling investigations.  These words are based on spellings or spelling rules that have been taught in class.
